Planted Here
The Spark By Work of Art \ Yaara Zaks \ 2025
Planted here is a soft, colorful environment built from a simple and forgiving material - pipe cleaners. A raw material that’s easy to fall in love with, carrying within it a dual story: on the outside it is soft, colorful, gentle, and inviting, while inside hides a thin wire: strong, steady, and resilient.
This duality between the delicate and the firm, the fragile and the enduring, lies at the heart of the work. The entire room becomes a field of growth born from contradiction, between outer softness and inner strength.
Tall flowers made of pipe cleaners sway in a gentle breeze, creating a constant movement that emphasizes the fragility of life and of reality - in Israel, always, and especially today.
“Planted here” seeks to create a moment of faith, a moment in which gentleness is not the opposite of strength, but its most human form. It offers a quiet hope that even what seems fragile and delicate is capable of blooming.
The work’s point of departure is a personal experience of loss, from which emerged the act of
sculpting, flower after flower, a process of healing through which a new reality begins to grow.
In memory of my sister, Limor Burstein Michaeli.
