Inverted Garden
Josef Rivlin Street, Jerusalem | 2026
"Inverted Garden" offers a different perspective on the concept of growth: rather than sprouting from the earth, it descends from the sky into the public space.
The installation is composed of nearly 300 unique, hand-sculpted pipe cleaner flowers, crafted from metal wire cores wrapped in fiber. Each flower forms part of a tapestry seeking a connection with Jerusalem, a city where reality often feels inverted while the gaze remains directed upward.
The garden invites passersby to pause and observe. It seeks to offer an alternative within a dense reality saturated with discord and conflict. Suspended and exposed to the sun, wind, and rain, the flowers are shaped by their environment. As in nature, the elements leave their mark, allowing the artwork to shift and evolve in real time.
About the Craft The creative process relies on continuous, meticulous labor. Each bloom is constructed from approximately 120 pipe cleaners, woven together twist by twist until the flower takes shape.
The physical variance and unique shape of each piece demonstrate that multiplicity and diversity are essential conditions for growth.
Take a moment for yourself. Look up. There is room for optimism.
In loving memory of my sister, Limor Michaeli Burshtein.
